We cannot talk about any way of operating online (either traffic building or web directories or online marketing etc.) without mentioning search engine.
A web search engine is a web spider designed to search for information on the internet. The information may consist of web pages, files, images, graphics, or photos.
Search engines are operated algorithmically or a mixture of algorithmic and human input, but mainly pre-program because it involves trillions of searches per hour which is beyond human capability.
Web spiders are programmed to crawl around the web to search and harvest relevant information for visitors who surf for information.
The more relevant the harvested information to the solution someone is trying to solve, the better for the visitor and the higher the search engine will be rated.
This is why some search engines reward websites that are able to deliver relevant information on demand.
Some major portals are Google, Yahoo and MSN.
I thought this e-book will not be complete if you do not understand the search web crawlers and how it can help you to attain your internet marketing goal.
I have to warn you though; search engine is a whole new topic by itself, beyond what we can cover in detail in this e-book.
What you would discover in this e-book is how search engines relate to your traffic building and how you can use it to build your online business.
Search Engines Can Drive You Lots Of Traffic For Free
Web browsers are the most popular way to drive natural traffic to your site. When your site ranks high for particular keywords, you will see so much traffic that your server might crash.
For many sites, search engines bring 80-90% of all their traffic (organically and paid). Website can get banned from major portals if their owners did not abide by portal rules – their worst nightmare.
Bearing in mind the miracles search engines can do in terms of traffic, the fear of not being able to operate are quite easy to understand. But do not worry – if you play by the rules, web browsers are not likely to ban you.
There are long lists of SEO things to avoid – some of them are listed below:
Cloaking – A situation where you create two types of contents. One for human and the other for web spoders.
Spamming – You stuff long lists of keyword into your content.
Hidden Texts – You hide your keyword texts in your code solely for the web spiders and it is unreadable by your human visitors.
Doorway pages – you create pages solely for the search engine.
Duplicate content or websites – you set up multiple websites or have several pages of the same information.
Linking to irrelevant websites – you link just for linking sake without providing any relevancy for your visitors. While you cannot control who link to your site, you can control who you link to. Finally, you only get into trouble for the links you made from your site.
Quick Advice
My advice is any excessive way to beat the search engine is bad for your site and have the potential of getting you into trouble.
